Like a Steel Beam

His body is breaking down,

but what will happen?

Will it just collapse

like a flawed scheme?

Or will his strength persist

like a steel beam?

He senses that urge-

that urge to just quit.

His body wants it, needs it,

But what pursues is his grit.

His everlasting grit supports him,

Gives him his strength,

His persistence,

And he fights.

This, his grit, builds him

To reign; to be champion,

Ignoring that urge;

That urge to quit.
